Professional Wisdom Tooth Extractions

Why Do We Remove Our Wisdom Teeth?

There can be a number of reasons that we remove our wisdom teeth, but the overall reason is that we as modern humans do not have any immediate need for them. Sometimes, the wisdom tooth will come in in a way that is not harmful to us, so it will not have to be removed. The most common reasons for removing a wisdom tooth are:

  • Impacted – The patient’s jaw is not large enough to fit the tooth and is unable to break through the gums
  • Partly showing – The tooth may only partly break through the gums and therefore is unable to seal correctly with the gums. This opens up a route for infection and is dangerous to the patient.
  • Angle – Some wisdom teeth can come in at an awkward angle, which can cause pain to the patient, or damage other teeth.

Recovery for Wisdom Tooth Extractions

Immediately following the procedure, the patient will be asked to bite down on gauze to form a blood clot. In the days following the procedure, the patient must take careful steps to avoid breaking the clot, allowing it to properly heal. Some things to avoid:

  • Smoking or chewing tobacco
  • Sucking out of a straw
  • Hard foods or candies
  • Chewing excessively
  • Picking at the sore spot

The doctor will schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure that it has properly healed.

Benefits of Wisdom Tooth Extractions

Prevents Overcrowding

Removes excess teeth that can push against others and cause alignment problems.

Reduces Risk of Infection

Impacted or partially erupted wisdom teeth can trap food and bacteria, leading to infection or gum disease.

Prevents Jaw Pain and Headaches

Eliminates pressure caused by erupting or impacted wisdom teeth pressing on surrounding structures.

Protects Orthodontic Work

Extraction helps maintain the results of braces or other orthodontic treatments by preventing shifting.

Our Wisdom Tooth Extraction Process

Our Wisdom Tooth Extraction are comfortable, comprehensive, and tailored to your needs. Here’s a step-by-step look at what happens during your visit:

We begin with a full dental exam and panoramic X-rays to assess the position of your wisdom teeth and determine whether extraction is needed.
Depending on whether the teeth are impacted, partially erupted, or fully erupted, we’ll recommend the best approach—whether surgical or simple extraction.
We offer local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia depending on your case and comfort level. You’ll feel relaxed and pain-free throughout the procedure.
Our dentist carefully removes the wisdom teeth, often in sections if they are impacted. We ensure minimal discomfort and a clean surgical site.
We provide detailed aftercare instructions and medication (if needed) to manage swelling or discomfort. Most patients recover in 3–5 days.
